Nowadays the demographic situation is widely discussed in the Government and by intelligentsia . Russia is the largest country in the world and the tendency of population decrease could raise the question of its territorial integrity, economic development and state sovereignty. The demographic situation in the Chuvash Republic for the past fifteen years is characterized by ongoing natural population decline that began in the 90-ies. However, fertility rate, mortality rate, life expectancy in the republic are more favorable than in the Russian Federation as a whole. Here is the analysis of demographic and health indicators of the Chuvash Republic in the article. The following has been determined : the direction and interrelation between the rates of general morbidity, mortality, and major social and economic indicators of the Chuvash Republic.
