The article examined the content of lactoferrin in saliva from pregnant women with primary 24 and 27 patients with recurrent caries during the gestational period. In a survey of healthy non-pregnant women found that lactoferrin concentration in saliva was 1,12±0,05 μg/ml, interquartile range corresponds to 0,76–1,45 µg/ml. In women with physiologically occurring in the absence of pregnancy caries lactoferrin level in all three trimesters was significantly higher than in a group of healthy non-pregnant women. Lactoferrin concentration in saliva for women with a primary tooth decay in each of the three trimesters was significantly higher than in a group of healthy pregnant women with similar periods of gestation. When caries lactoferrin level in recurrent saliva was higher compared to patients with a primary tooth decay as in pregnant and non-pregnant women. The most pronounced increase of lactoferrin into the third by pregnancy was observed in patients with recurrent caries. Thus, the lactoferrin in saliva can be seen not only as a marker of inflammation in the mouth, but also as an indicator of adverse currents of the carious lesions of teeth.
