APPLICATION OF BONE CEMENT IN COMBINATION WITH ANTIBIOTICS FOR TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC OSTEOMYELITIS OF THE BONES OF THE LIMBS

The article presents the the methods of application of bone cement based on of polymethylmethacrylate impregnated with antibiotics for the treatment of patients with chronic post-traumatic osteomyelitis of the bones of the limbs. There were clinical cases of application of bone cement in combination with antibacterial drugs as antimicrobial and plastic spacers to fill the remaining cavities of osteomyelitis. Bone cement impregnated with antibiotics was used for the treatment of 22 patients with chronic osteomyelitis. Liquid solution of gentamicin and powder of vancomycin were used as antibacterial agents to be added to the bone cement. The bone cement impregnated with antibiotics was used for plastics residual cavity of osteomyelitis in 9 patients, as antimicrobial spacers in 10 patients, for the formation of the active antimicrobial coating blocked intramedullary nails in three patients. According to the research the short-term positive results of treatment were observed in 81.8% of patients, the immediate positive results of treatment were observed in 94.4% of patients with chronic osteomyelitis of the bones of the limbs.
