THE EFFECT OF NON-STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS ON ALVEOLAR BONE RESORPTION IN CHRONIC PERIODONTITIS

The purpose of the present study was to review the literature on the effects of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs on the alveolar bone resorption in chronic periodontitis. Most of the research indicate that various drugs of the group are able to improve clinical parameters of the disease, delay its progression and reduce bone loss. However, mechanisms of anti-resorptive activity of NSAIDs in cases of periodontal inflammation, the role of COX-dependent and COX-independent mediators in this process, accurate duration of therapy, doses of drugs and etc. are not fully understood. The above determines the need for further more in-depth and detailed study of the issues of NSAIDs in the treatment of patients with chronic periodontitis.
