The aim of our study was to determine the incidence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) , the frequency and combination of its definitive components and gender differences in patients with ST segment elevation myocardial infarction using two criteria of diagnosis: The Russian Criteria For Diagnosis Of Metabolic Syndrome And The New Harmonized Definition Of Metabolic Syndrome. Among 112 patients that were included in the study, 67.8% of patients using the Russian criteria and 75.9% of patients using the new harmonized definition had metabolic syndrome. Using both criteria, patients with MetS were more likely to be females, were older than males and with higher body mass index (BMI). The most common combination of three components was AO+AH+ low HDL-C and the most common combination of four components was AH+ AO+HTG+low HDL-C. Results of the study demonstrated high prevalence of MetS among patients with ST segment elevation myocardial infarction, especially in females
