The aim of this study was to evaluate the structural and functional changes of the heart in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and arterial hypertension. According to our data, patients with arterial hypertension observed echocardiographic signs of left ventricular hypertrophy, impaired diastolic function and dilatation of the left atrium, in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease right ventricular hypertrophy with impaired diastolic function, dilatation of the right atrium were observed. In patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in combination with arterial hypertension structural and functional changes of the heart were characterized by an increase in the size and thickness of the walls of both ventricles, enlargement of both atria and violation of both systolic and diastolic left ventricular functions. This is consistent with the existing concepts of pathogenetic role of systemic inflammatory processes underlying chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, in the remodeling of the cardiovascular system.
