Within the 7-year period the neonatal thyrotrophic hormone (TTH) analysis was done in Altai Krai and the Republic of Altai. The aim was to estimate the iodine deficit on the territory according to one of the criteria recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for iodine deficit estimation (TTH level more than 5 mlU/L). For the period mentioned above, 222398 newborn children’s level of TTH was analyzed (been born from 1.01.2007 to 31.12.2013 in Altai Krai and the Republic of Altai). According to this index the iodine deficit of mild extent was revealed on the territory of Altai Krai and the Republic of Altai. On the basis of this data, the neonatal TTH level monitoring was done, which helped not only to estimate the iodine deficit, but also the effectiveness of the iodine prevention run on this territory, more than that, to confirm the iodine prevention necessity in this region subject to the preserving iodine deficit.
